Peter was freaking out. He'd been freaking out constantly ever since the Daily Bugle aired that video with Mysterio blaming him for all the stuff that had happened and outing him as Spider-Man. He had just freaked and grabbed MJ and ran off. So of course they were saying that he had kidnapped MJ which was just making everything worse.
Currently they were in some sort of low rent motel and he was glued to the news, running his hands through his hair. Aunt May had gone to stay with Pepper for a while who could keep reporters at bay and claimed that for his own safety Peter was not appearing to interviews. In reality he was afraid to let her know where he was in case someone tried to get to him through her.
"I don't... I don't know how to deal with this," Peter said, staring at the TV, only sort of talking to MJ. "You should go home. Then you could tell them I didn't kidnap you and... I don't know. You don't have to be here, no one is after you."
